I'm a documentary filmmaker specialising in music and arts, cultural identities and minorities in Turkey, and am a former musician.
Until recently I lived in Germany. For the last few years, I have been producing in the framework of the Turkish TV network NTV in Istanbul.

Erasmus Euromedia Special Award
The seven-part documentary TURKEY ON THE MOVE which was writtten and directed by Nedim Hazar and broadcast by NTV in Turkey, received the Erasmus Euromedia Special Award. The award was handed over to Nedim Hazar by the Ambassador of Turkey Mr. Selim Yenel at the Festival Hall of the City Hall of Vienna. Prof. Thomas A. Bauer, one of the organisers, gave a laudation in which he said among other things:
"Nedim Hazar, the script writer and director of the six-part documentary “Turkey on the move”, followed the ways and the mobility of people that is always in motion and found unbelievable biographies to be told. He developed a way of telling a media story that not only is a story but also in same time a statement on current discourses: how can marriage be negotiated, how is life with and without head scarf, what is the chance for a common life of gay people, what makes refugees from eastern authoritarian countries feeling being in Europe just having arrived and staying in Turkey, how do migrants to Europe feel being back in Turkey for a short while and what is the key parameter of understanding ones own life as a profession just being a Turk. It is the ethno-methodological and the cultural-anthropological approach of Nedim Hazar that makes possible to involve the Turkish society into reflexive discourses on its own diverse roots, but also on its discrepancies and contradictions. It is done in a way so that Turkish people accept and say: Yes, its Turkey – this way and that way."
The Erasmus Media Awards are given to outstanding media products reflecting the European vision since 1995.
Collaboration With Amnesty International
The International Secretariat of Amnesty International is preparing a report and an eventual campaign about the problems and the legal obstacles facing refugees in Turkey. This campaign due for 2009 will be supported by public screenings of the fourth part of Turkey on the Move - "Don't Wait For Me" which is about Iranian, Iraqi and Afgan refugees in Turkey.
